Halloween 2021 was slightly different this year, i was given the opportunity by @uk.shooters (on instagram) to be apart of the team again for the second year. I was hired to do makeup jobs as a photography event was taking place, just like it does annually and like before, it was an amazing experience.
One of my lovely models was Daisey, she had asked for a day of the dead look, and as always google and pintrest helped out with the inspiration of the look. I drew out my face chart to put the idea into action, this really help with product placement and visuals so you can see your look before it’s on the models face.

As this was an organised event everything had a time schedule, so as expected we were limited to time when working on our models. i had 3 models overall to work on so i had to try my best to evenly spread out my time as wisely as possible. As you are in your element and focusing on your work it is very easy to loose track of time and spend extra time on one person so it is very vital to be aware of the time your taking.
Unfortunately as we were in a rush to get our models done as best as possible in the time that we had i was unable to get progression pictures, however the photographers captured some amazing images which i will display as we go along.

I start off daisey‘s look by mapping out the placement of where i wanted everything to go, i had done this using a white liner pencil. I use this as i find it more precise and the colour is easily removable if you are unhappy with what you are doing.
luckily the day of the dead look can be easily done as you just need to focus on shapes and the placement of them on the face.
i then begun to fill in the dark spaces on her face which is to give the look a ”hollow“ effect. Once i had done this the look started to come into place to it was then ready for the finer details which differentiates the look from your average skull to a “day of the dead” skeleton.

Dia De Los Muertos
The traditional “day of the dead” festival is a Largely celebrated holiday in Mexico and with people of Mexican heritage, this holiday traces back around 3,000 years from rituals honouring the dead in pre-columbian mesoamerica. The holiday is a blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture where they welcome back the souls of their ancestors and passed relatives by offering goods to passed loved ones and celebrating their lives.

I began to add the red detailing into the look which highly complimented the models outfit and headpiece. I lastly added some dark contouring onto her cheekbones to give her a more structured and malnourished look.
Here are some of the amazing photos taken by the talented photographer.
